Flowers by Anne Popperwell

I am drawn to paint flowers for the of shapes and colours, the feel of the petals, the variety of ways they unfurl and their beauty.

I feel connected to our long history throughout time of cultivating flowers and using them to celebrate the primary occasions of human life; birth, death and marriage.

I paint them using many thin layers of paint creating the feeling of light emanating from the flower itself and I use an exaggerated scale and closeup point of view to create the sense of being inside the flowers.
